Could This Be A Home Business Killer?
They are at it again! There was a very interesting story that hit the news yesterday, that could affect a majority of small home based businesses. "Congress Set To End Tax-Free Online Shopping!"
This was orginally reported by cnet news on April 15th Tax-Free Internet shopping maybe at an end! What is truly an injustice, most families, home businesses, small business, and large business have had to cut back streamline costs while local, state and federal governments continue to grow.
While they've tried for the past seven years to get this placed into law, is it really counter productive? For example, if you’re a one person home business owner who sells an ebook you've written online, how much of a burden will it be to keep up with each local and state sales taxes.
Will you be able to do it all yourself or will it become so complex and burdensome that you just close-up shop?
Many online retailers have voiced their concerns already as to the complexity of the various state laws. What is even more outrageous is proponents for the passage of this, site the Rockefeller Institute which said sales taxes have declined by 6.1 percent, the largest decline in half a century!
Wow, haven't we had it hammered into our heads everyday that this is the greatest recession, depression etc... So is a 6.1 percent decline in sales taxes really a big deal, I don't think it is, what do you think?
What is really unfortunate is the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1992 that unless Congress changes the laws out of state retailers could not be obligated to collect sales taxes.
Today we definitely have a more sympathetic Congress that does not care what the tax burden is on individuals, self-employed, or corporations.
My gut tells me this law could very well pass, and it could not happen at the worst possible time for a small home business owner whom no doubt is struggling today to make ends meet!
With approximately 17.5 million people involved in direct selling today, we can make a difference, yet we cannot procrastinate we have to ACT.
