Presentation Of Your Home Business Site

With so many individuals utilizing social sites to promote their home bases businesses, most never think of the image they are creating with their online presence.

If you are on Twitter, and you click on many of the links to their web sites most take you to a landing page. If they do have a site many are using either free blog hosting, an inexpensive way to do it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but what you'll often see is a poorly designed site, based on a free template they've picked up. They have rushed through this process and have their priorities all wrong.

Driving traffic to a site that is not ready for public display, well that's just crazy. Or it shows the laziness of the person who created it. Granted we are not all expert web designers, but our sites should be unique enough that they do stand out and are memorable.

There is one site that I've used for years and have purchased their books is Sitepoint. I keep three of their books located within arms reach:

• The Principles of Beautiful Web Design.
• HTML UTOPIA: Designing Without Tables Using CSS.
• The CSS Anthology

When you combine what you can learn from these books, along with the Firefox web browser and a few plugins like firebug and yslow then you'll be well on your way to designing a nice looking site.

Once you've achieved this, then start driving traffic to it. If you neglect this trust me procrastination will prevent you from ever getting the job done.

You would not build a house without a proper foundation would you? Then why would you build your home business without one?

Don't be afraid to invest in your business, with a quality web site template. If necessary hire a graphics designer to create that custom logo, maybe even a complete header graphic.

When targeting the market you want to pursue, look at the top web sites there. What you'll find is that each of them is unique and different. My hunch is that it's not just the search engine robots that put them there.
