Using Twitter to Market Your Home Business?

A few weeks ago I decided to conduct an experiment with Twitter on my network marketing web site. The results where exactly what I had expected to find there.

Instead of chasing people down, I simply used the right keywords in the 140 character post to get people chasing me. Yet 99% of them simply wanted to sell something.

The tweets I send out provide useful blog posts, news about various companies and things you'd expect to interest someone in a home business.

I had put up a video on one of my sites that I thought did a very good job of explaining all of this "Is Anybody Really Listening On Twitter?" my test clearly indicates in certain circumstances they are not listening at all.

What was really interesting is how some people would find you and follow you with the hope of you following them back. I don't have a problem with this, except when it is a restaurant located a thousand miles from me.

Really would I want to see the tweets of their lunch and dinner specials? It really does go back to knowing exactly who your market truly is. Yet this is what many are doing, blindly following anyone without discovering is this person a prospect or not?

While social media marketing has its place, the restaurant in question would be better off with local advertising. It clearly would yield a higher return on investment, unless you don't consider your time valuable.

I couldn't agree with this statement more... I too have used Twitter to network, and on the plus side I have met and built relationships with a few people/ organizations, but the majority of my experience has been that people are looking for me to follow them and buy into what they are selling.

Social media is a great and powerful tool when you understand how to use it in your niche!

It is very true that Twitter is a very powerful traffic generator to any site. Pretty much any social media tool can be used for great marketing presence. The power in Twitter is that you have to click any link posted to get more info unlike Facebook where you can post most of the info to where the people can make a decision without getting educated by the site itself.

Anyway, great post and look forward to reading more.

It is true that local marketing generates good revenue, but the modern method of social media marketing is also welcome, given the cheap and easy method being used. A better way of Twitter posting is available, you write your expression with t: as prefix and the expression goes directly to Twitter.
