Web Site Content Theft Rising To New Levels!

When you stop and think about the near global economic collapse we can point to many things. Yet, most of it comes to rest squarely on our shoulders.

Today, far to many individuals believe that it is perfectly ok to just scrape someone else's content and post it as if it was their own content.

Everyone would love to have their content syndicated on other sites. And for the ethical sites out there that do this they at least provide a link back to the original article.

In my last blog post here at Nav60.com "Twitter Tied To Google Buzz A Disaster?" the post was scraped within just a few hours.

It hit Google news and numerous tweets later one would believe that the site that stole the content actually created it.

Fortunately with the "DMCA" Digital Millennium Copyright Act you can file a claim that a website has stolen your copy. Personally I know that Google with blogger takes it very seriously.

As, well as Godaddy! With Blogger the site is generally gone never to return. Godaddy gives them the opportunity to remove the content.

So If you arrive at your site and you find this...

You just might have an issue or two!

This can be difficult for the scrapers if all of their content has been scrapped from other sites.

So what can you do?

Check occasionally on content you've written. By taking a snippet of text for example:

Enclosing it in quotations and doing a google search will bring up all of the matching pages it has indexed.

If a website had a copy with a link back to the original article "your site" great if not don't be afraid to submit a DMCA to their web hosting company.

After all you wouldn't let someone walk into your house and take whatever they wanted, would you?
