Your Office Furniture
May 30, 2008

Furniture for your home business office is a close as your nearest officemax or officedepot. Generally you can find what your after locally. With the power of the internet, we can shop from the comfort of our home.
Select what we want, call ahead drive down and pick it up.
Desks:
Bigger is not always better. Often we cannot tell just how a desk is going to fit us until we sit down and try it on for size. We have to imagine how would lay it out with our computer and other items that we would use in our business on a day to day basis.
A desk with a few drawers is nice but not an absolute necessity. Of course a few in baskets are very beneficial, provided we focus on our business, process items quickly and file them out of the way.
Myself I prefer a U shaped corner desk, preferably with pull out slides. It always seem that we have more research, product material out then our desks can handle. Above all else keep it neat and organized, this will lead to greater productivity.
A Comfortable Chair:
The chair is one of the most important pieces of furniture you can buy for you home office. Do not cut corners here, you will be spending quite a bit of time in this chair.
Once again try out many different office chairs locally. Find one that fits you, provides good back support etc..
Leather or fabric it's your choice when it comes to office furniture for your home business.
Filing Cabinets:
These come in many different shapes and sizes. I prefer to pick mine up from companies that have been around for years.
The reasons are: what maybe adequate today may not be tomorrow. This would require searching for cabinets that match or completely replace the cabinets that I already own.
Storage Space for Products:
Quite a few home based businesses will require you to store the products you have for resale. One of the dilemmas is not have aqueduct space.
Often we will use a portion of our garage to store files and products. This is where we can run into trouble. Here in the desert southwest my garage averages well into the triple digit range during the summer time.
Not a good place for perishable products, while it makes a great place for storing paper files and brochures. In a more humid environment the garage may not be the best place for these items.
If you do need to store products and don't have the space, check your local area for climate controlled storage facilities. Yes they even have them here in the Desert SouthWest.
