Computers Every Business Has One.

Computers are wonderful devices. Most people don’t fully realize just how powerful a device that they have at their disposal.

Building a successful Home Business is going to require one, along with the essential software to make you productive.

Everyday you see on the television how you can start a home business and all you need is a computer.

In many cases they are not to far from the truth, you do need a computer to be effective. Still many home businesses have been successfully built without a computer.

Computers make us effective, we can communicate via email, create web sites to sell our products and services. The computer has become an integral part of every home business today. When it comes to computers for our business we have many choices.

Generally they boil down to two major operating systems, with a third finally starting to gain a foot hold into this market.

These operating systems are:

  • Microsoft Window’s in both XP and now Vista.
  • Apple’s OS X operating system
  • Linux in many different forms.

Microsoft has managed to maintain a strangle hold on the business market for quite sometime. Yet the business climate is turning.

There is now solutions to this problem, thanks to companies like Parallels and Vmware. We can now run virtual machines running Windows software on top of the Apple Mac operating system and in some cases Linux. This gives us the best of both worlds, true freedom of choice and access to applications we may already have.

Having a good reliable computer system is important, no matter which operating system or manufacture you choose. When your using it in a business fashion you cannot afford breakdowns or loss of data.

Heat is of major concern when you have a home office. Sometimes this is a byproduct of the operating system, computer processor etc… Vista for example in the same computer that ran Windows Xp ran 40 degrees warmer, way to much of an increase for a home office.

Which ever operating system your running the core elements we need for our business will not vary much.

  • A good email system.
  • Contact management program.
  • Fax software.
  • Web design software.

We have many choices in a computer, whether that is a desktop or a laptop or preferably both. Now lets look at the different operating systems.

Windows XP or Vista
Apple OS X
Linux
